Ordering The
Language of
Mathematics, 2007 Edition
[This
page updated Feb. 21, 2008]
The Language of Mathematics has been used in numerous
editions since 1988 at
Montana State University. The text is
self-published because the market is too small (only a few universities
have a course in the language of mathematics). This course and text
have been used
at Montana State University, Idaho State University, Baker University
in Kansas, and the University of Missouri - Kansas City.
A student solutions manual with solutions to all
the
odd-numbered problems is available for $6
(43 crammed small-print pages
- enough to really help).
Most people order
the text ($34. This is very
inexpensive
for a major math text.)
the student solutions manual ($6),
postage ($9, priority mail in the U.S.)
(or $4 for
slower book-rate
"media-mail" postage in the U.S., which I
recommend to save
money.
People who have ordered tell me it arrives in about 5 days
to the
west and 7-10 days to the east [I'm in Montana]. For
postage to other
countries,
see below.
total $44 (media mail) or
$49 (priority mail).
Make checks
or money orders payable
in U.S. dollars to "Warren Esty." I do not take credit cards other than
PayPal.
I accept PayPal.
For
the
usual order (text, solutions, media mail in the US: $34+$6+$4 =
$44)
you may reach your PayPal account by using the next button for
"media mail" in the US:
If
you are in Canada,
do not use these buttons. Postage to Canada is discussed here.
Or, for priority
mail in the US (text,
student solutions,
priority
mail:
$34+$6+$9 = $49), use the next button:
Or, you may log into your account at https://www.paypal.com/
and send payment to me at
If you pay by regular mail be sure your order is clear about exactly
what you
ordered (for
example, "LM, solutions, priority mail" or "LM,
solutions,
media mail") and your s-mail address. I have written more than one
book and you must mention "LM" (The
Language of Mathematics)
so I know this is the book you want. Using PayPal gets you the
materials
very quickly.
Payment by check for shipping abroad must be in
U.S. dollars drawn
on a U.S. bank (otherwise there are large collection
charges).
I recommend money orders drawn on a U.S. bank. Even better is PayPal.

I usually post books within one day
of receiving the
check. Enclose your e-mail address and I will let you know when it is
posted.
Of course, there is also an Instructor's Solutions Manual with
solutions to all problems, but it is available only to teachers.
Postage to other countries:
$11 airmail to Canada
(There is no media-mail
to
Canada. Even airmail is slow -- it seems that
Canadian Customs often holds up books for a week extra). Log
into your PayPal account and add $11 for shipping to Canada
(which is less than my cost) for a total of $56. Be sure your order is
clear about exactly
what you
ordered (Subject line: "LM, solutions, mail to Canada").
$20 airmail to Mexico.
$25 airmail to Sweden (7-10 days, they say, but
I bet it may
take longer),
$25 airmail to England, $14 by slow-boat.
(E-mail me for a
way to avoid pound conversion charges by donating to Wolfson College,
Cambridge, or the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge (your choice) in my
name, instead of paying me. That might even
be tax-deducable.)
$25 airmail to Germany.
$25 airmail to Israel, Turkey, Japan, or
Australia.
$25 airmail to Oman.
$21 to Brazil.
E-mail me about postage to other countries.

Mathematics.
Go to a
one-page description of it as a
"core" course.
