Ordering The Language of Mathematics, 19th Edition

[This site updated Feb. 1, 2013]

The Language of Mathematics
has been used in numerous editions since 1988 at Montana State University. The text is self-published because the market is too small (only a few universities have a course in the language of mathematics). This course and text have been used at Montana State University, Idaho State University, Coppin State in Baltimore, Baker University in Kansas, and the University of Missouri - Kansas City, as well as by very numerous individuals.

If you order the text, I will send you by e-mail a pdf copy of the Student's Solutions Manual, gratis. It is 43 crammed small-print pages - enough to really help.

Most people order

the text      ($35.95. This is very inexpensive for a major math text.)
the student solutions manual (free in pdf format),

postage    ($4 for slow book-rate "media-mail" postage in the U.S., for a total of $39.95 People who have ordered tell me it arrives in about 5 days to the west and 7-10 days to the east coast. I ship from Montana.
or $6 for priority mail in the U.S for a total of $41.95. The Post Office says it takes 3 days to the east coast. For postage to other countries, see below.)

total $39.95 (slower media-mail) or $41.95 (faster priority mail). You may pay with PayPal below.

Make checks or money orders payable in U.S. dollars to "Warren Esty." I do not take credit cards other than through PayPal.
I accept PayPal.

For the usual order (text, media mail in the US: $35.95+$4 = $39.95) with student solutions sent to you gratis by e-mail as a pdf file, you may reach your PayPal account by using the next button for "media mail" in the US (I ship from Montana):

If you are in Canada, do not use these buttons
. Postage to Canada is discussed here.

Or, for priority mail in the US (text, priority mail: $35.95+$6 = $41.95), with student solutions sent to you gratis by e-mail as a pdf file, use the next button (I ship from Montana):

Or, you may log into your account at  https://www.paypal.com/   and send payment to me at
  e-mail

You may pay by check and regular mail. If you pay by regular mail be sure your order is clear about exactly what you ordered (for example, "LM, priority mail" or "LM, media mail") and your postal mail address. You must include your e-mail address so I can send the solutions manual. I have written more than one book and you must mention "LM" (The Language of Mathematics) so I know this is the book you want. Using PayPal gets you the materials very quickly.

Payment by check for shipping abroad (see shipping cost below) must be in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank (otherwise there are large collection charges. Even a US dollar check drawn on a Canadian bank will not do). I recommend money orders drawn on a U.S. bank.  Even better is PayPal.

I usually post books within one day of receiving the check. Enclose your e-mail address and I will let you know when it is posted  and I will send you the solutions manual in pdf format.

There is also an Instructor's Solutions Manual with solutions to all problems and an Instructor's Manual, but they are available only to teachers.

Shipping to other countries. The US Post Office is losing money and just raised their interntional rates a lot.  $20 airmail to Canada (There is no media-mail to Canada. Even airmail is slow -- it seems that Canadian Customs often holds up books for a week extra). Log into your PayPal account and add $20 for shipping to Canada, for a total of $55.95. Be sure your order is clear about exactly what you ordered (Subject line: "LM, mail to Canada").
$20 airmail to Mexico.
$24 airmail to England, Spain, Germany, Sweden and other countries in Europe [$59.95 total for text and shipping, preferably paid by PayPal]
$24 airmail to Israel, Turkey, Japan, Australia, Oman, Brazil and anywhere else that US Priority Flat Rate mail goes. E-mail me about postage to other countries.
Return to the main page of The Language of Mathematics.

Go to a one-page description of it as a "core" course.
